Fruit Quality

Considering the awareness about healthy food, breeding for enhanced fruit quality is becoming an important breeding objective for most breeding programs. Characterization of pepper agro-biodiversity that exists in the newly created UGA-Capsi-Core collection can assist us to get more insight of the fruit quality. Among fruit quality, enhanced nutritional components including vitamin C (Vit C), total soluble solids (TSS), antioxidant activities (AA), and total polyphenols (TP). The envision breeding research on enhanced fruit quality would allow us to select promising breeding lines or accessions to develop nutritionally enhanced sweet pepper cultivars or breeding lines.
